About NTC's founder

Dan Blackburn
Dad, coach, youth mentor and founder of National Training Centres. For the last 20 years, he has been helping youth live their dreams and reach the pinnacle of success. Since then he has trained 1000's of athletes from Minor hockey, NCAA, OHL, Junior A and NHL including champions like P.K. Subban of the Nashville Predators; Jeff Skinner of the Carolina Hurricanes and Tyler Seguin of the Dallas Stars.
Brad Jamieson
Sports basically summed up my childhood. I played a variety of sports at almost every skill level ranging from house league to elite or AAA. As an athlete growing up, I’ve learned that nothing is ever earned without hard work. This is where my passion for training stems from. Once I completed my post grad, I pursued my strength and conditioning certification to become a coach and distill that passion and hard work with younger athletes. Since then, I have been coaching all abilities and skill levels from kids just starting out in sports, to elite, high performance athletes.

What are the program start and end dates?
2018 Building The Complete Athlete starts May 13, 2018 and ends August 24, 2018.
Where are the training sessions hosted?
NTC Hockey’s Training facility is located Above rink 1 and rink 2, inside Westwood Arena, 90 Woodbine Downs, Etobicoke, On.
How long has the NTC hockey building the complete athlete program been available to athletes?
Over 2 decades. We began training our first athletes in 1997.
Has NTC building a complete athlete program successfully helped athletes?
Yes! NTChockey has helped 1000’s of athletes including PK Subban, Tyler Toffoli, John Tavares, Jeff Skinner, David Bolland, Tyler Seguin, Brent Burns and countless other NHL, European professional, OHL, NCAA, Jr. a, Jr. B, and minor hockey athletes since 1998.
Is The Building the Complete Athlete Program for athletes of all ages?
Yes. Athletes 8 years of age and up are candidates for this program. If the athlete wants to achieve this program is for them.
Do players of different age groups and abilities follow different programming?
Yes. We tailor each athletes program based on their age, gender, position and physical needs and abilities.
What type of training the athletes typically participate in over the course of the program?
NTC Hockey’s programs consist of proper dynamic total body warm up, mobility training, upper and lower body plyometrics, speed work, stability & strength training, core development, conditioning training and Pillars of Greatness Programming.
Are athletes given a standard program for everyone?
Although we build our programs from a template based on the athletes testing scores, progress, and needs, athletes programs can be individualized to serve their specific needs throughout the summer.
Will my son/daughter be expected to lead themselves through the program?
No. All NTC hockey training sessions are led by coaches with the credentials, experience, and knowledge to ensure that all training is conducted safely, and with the athletes best interests in mind.
Will my son or daughter need any other equipment other than typical workout gear?
Yes. Because NTC is constantly raising the bar on our own training programs this summer athletes will be required to purchase a heart rate monitor as well as a push velocity band.
Why do athletes need a heart rate monitor?
Heart rate monitors are essential in determining the optimum conditioning capabilities of an athlete. Rather than at asking athletes to rest for a subjective period of time, a heart rate monitor empowers us to use each athletes own physiological feedback to ensure they are training at their optimum levels that are specific for them.
What is a push band?
The push technology is a forearm band worn by each athlete to ensure that an athlete is training after optimum levels. All workout analytics are recorded for athlete and coach review during and following training sessions.
What is the Pillars of Greatness Program?
Building on my own experience, as well as training champions like PK, David and Tyler, I have developed the Pillars of Greatness curriculum, a step-by-step guide on how to Dream, Plan and Execute the life you want. Offered as a keynote series for schools, associations, corporations and clubs the curriculum teaches 3 life-transforming principles that will help you form a plan to shatter the fears and setbacks that have stopped you from creating the life you want. Trust me, I have seen it all, and I know that regardless of circumstances, environment or limitations, you can achieve.
Has The Pillars of Greatness successfully helped athletes?
Yes. Since 1998 The Pillars of Greatness has been the cornerstone of all NTC programs. All athletes that have attended NTC's programs since that time have experienced the Pillars of Greatness Program.
When does the Pillars of Greatness Program take place?
The opening seminar takes place at the start of the program, May 12th, 2018 from 1pm to 3pm at Westwood arena. The Pillars of Greatness curriculum is reinforced throughout the 2018 16 - Week Building The Complete Athlete Program.
Does the Pillars a Greatness only focus on hockey?
No. Using proven techniques, resources and programming, athletes are taught how to achieve balance in their lives; leading to greater accomplishments in all aspects of their lives.
Are athletes required to book specific time in advance? NTC is flexible with our training schedules. Athletes are free to attend any of our regularly scheduled sessions without calling in advance or pre-booking themselves. Simply show up get to work and make their dreams happen.
What’s the difference between the 2 day week in the 5 day week program?
Both programs deliver powerful results. The different programs allow us to cater to each athletes needs and commitment levels.

Are athletes tested at any point in the program?
Yes. To ensure athletes are on the right track, athletes are tested three times over the course of the program to assess, then reassess their needs as well as demonstrating progress. May 12th, July 9th and August 19th, 2018

What happens if athletes schedules change over the course of the summer and they are unable to attend their regular sessions?
Athletes have the ability to move and switch training sessions at any time throughout the 16 week training program.
Is the NTC training facility climate controlled?
Yes. We take our athletes health and performance very seriously. Our facility is climate controlled to ensure that athletes have access to the optimum training environment.
